The Truth About Toxins

hazardBill Moyers stated in a March 2004 PBS “Trade Secrets” show, “Today, not a single child is born free of synthetic chemical…if breast milk were regulated like infant formula,it would commonly violate FDA levels for poisonous substances in food”

The delicate ecological balance of our earth has become compromised. We have contaminated our air, water, soil and our food chain. We have used and continue to use pesticides, herbicides, hormone-enhancing drugs, chemical additives, preservatives, asbestos, formaldehyde, genetically modified foods and radioactivity. It is amazing what our bodies can endure!

While many environmental hazards are out of our control, we can make daily decisions to protect our bodies. We can make wise choices with what you allow in your home. Knowledge is powerful.

Good old Plastic

Did you know plastics contain chemicals? And these chemicals are toxic. These chemicals can leech into your food or liquid, especially when heated. Never use plastic or plastic food wrap to heat food in the microwave. An alternative to plastic would be lead-free glass, ceramic, stainless steel, waxed paper, cellophane.

Food irradiation

is used to extend the shelf life of foods by controlling sprouting and ripening. It is done through certain levels of gamma radiation. Many of supermarket foods have gone through this process. The FDA has reported that human cells are very sensitive to gamma radiation. Irradiated food may impair cell division, change fats into peroxidases and wreck havoc on our cells.

GMO

Genetically modified designed seeds give a bigger crop but it is not focused on nutrition, yet have the potential to genetically alter us. Processed foods are most likely to contain a GMO product.

Read the label

Quick reference when looking at the PLU stickers on produce in your grocery store:

Conventional grown produce has 4 numbers.
Organically grown has 5 numbers, prefaced by the number 9.
GMO produce has 5 numbers, prefaced by the number 8.

Cosmetics and Perfumes

There are hundreds of different toxic chemicals used to manufacture a single perfume. Toluene is the most abundant chemical. It is a known mutagen.

Most of skin care products contain tallow which is the fat that floats to the top after boiling animal parts, old restaurant grease and road kill. Just what you want to put on your face!

Using a natural skin care line can provide nutrients your skin needs. Skin is your largest organ and is visible to all.

Mold, Fungi and Parasites

When our immune system is compromised in some way, parasites and fungi can set up house in our body. A healthy intestinal tract is key. Get in the habit of using garlic, onions, oregano, figs almonds, blueberries and coconut. Taking a high quality probiotic supplement can also aid in supplying friendly intestinal bacteria.

May someone explain it a little bit deeper for me, please?

Human exposure to hormone-disrupting synthetic chemicals can leach from products. For example: the urethra is suppose to emerge at the tip of the penis, but 1 out of 300 baby boys, its opening is elsewhere…called hypospadias. No one knows what causes the defect, but studies have shown the widespread chemicals called phthalates can reproduce it in rodents. Phthalates are used as softening agents in certain plastics such as PVC and in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and other products. That’s why many European countries have banned phthalates in certain toys.
