How much is your health worth?

The latest government figures offer more proof that many people are leading unhealthy lifestyles. The majority of U.S. adults are , nearly one in five are daily smokers, and one in five consumed at least five alcoholic drinks in a day at least once in a year, according to government’s national health survey.

National Center for Health Statistics show that 30 % of U.S. adults 20 years of age and older are obese. That’s over 60 million people! And 16 % of teenagers and children are considered overweight. Add another 9 million young people. According to the current data the numbers are increasing every year and the situation is worsening.

Being overweight or obese increases the risks of many diseases and health conditions:

  • Coronary heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Gallbladderdisease
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Sleep apnea and respiratory problems
  • Some cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon)

Who wants any of those dis-eases? Sometimes, diseases like those don’t just happen. What we eat or don’t eat has a lot to do with our state of health. Scholars say we eat for basically 3 reasons:

  1. We eat to physically build our bodies.
  2. We eat for energy.
  3. And we eat for FUN.
